The New Zealand betting landscape started with the TAB brand and the first off-course totalisator service in the world in 1951. The Totalisator Agency Board (TAB) was born and as the world moved and changed, so too did the TAB. Sports betting, websites, apps, products, services and features were all introduced and improved for New Zealand punters, and the brand has been a household name throughout.
On June 1 2023, a strategic partnership was established and the TAB brand became part of the powerhouse of offerings from Entain Australia and New Zealand. Thanks to the innovations Entain boasts, New Zealand customers will benefit from the world-class expertise they’ve come to expect from Entain. The partnership also provides more investment into sports and racing in New Zealand and significant financial contributions to the sports and racing communities through Kiwis betting on their favourite events.
The business now known as Entain in Australia began from humble beginnings, with group CEO Dean Shannon first launching bookmaker.com.au in 2012.
Entain, or Ladbrokes as it was then, entered the Australian market in 2013 through its acquisition of Bookmaker.com.au. It then launched ladbrokes.com.au before furthering its growth trajectory through the acquisition of Betstar in 2014.
Later, the company, then known as GVC Group, successfully acquired Neds in November 2018.
Entain continues to operate a multi-brand approach in Australia where it is one of the fastest growing online wagering companies.
Entain’s investment in proprietary technology has created a strong competitive advantage and earnt it a reputation as the leading innovator in the category, boasting first-to-market with products such as Odds Boost and Same Race Multi across all three racing codes.
